- People talk about this topic quite often. We have Arabic, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese. Who speaks the most difficult language?
- First of all, no language is difficult as the first language. Every child can master her/his native language no matter what the language she/he speaks. In this sense, it might be meaningless to discuss which language is more or less difficult.
- Second of all, each language has a different difficulty in each skill. For example, Korean is fairly easy to write; however, they have a really difficult system of honorific expressions. You have to distinguish many ways of expressions depending upon who you are talking to.
- Regarding Chinese, they have tons of characters. In addition, Chinese is a tonal language. This means, depending upon how you tone a word, the meaning differs. I believe there are at least four tones in Chinese (or more). However, their grammar is fairly easy.
- I don't know much about Arabic. Arabic writing seems daunting, but it might be so complicated once you learn it. I think the hardest part in Arabic is its variation. Even if you learn the formal Arabic, that is not enough. You need to learn a dialect.
- Third of all, if you are learning a language, how difficult a language is depends on your first language. For the Japanese, Korean and Chinese are easier to learn because we share so many features in common. One research showed that the Japanese need only half of time to learn Korean compared to English. However, Korean is often regarded as one of the most difficult languages for English speakers.
- Similarly, Spanish and French are fairly easy for English speakers. But they are as difficult as English for Asians. Not only Korean but also Chinese and Japanese are also difficult ones to learn for English speakers.
- So the answer to the question: what is the most difficult language in the world can not be single. It depends on how you take a look at a language.
- Still, English does not seem to be one of the difficult languages in the world. That may be why lots of people choose to use English for communication, and we end up by learning it.

For language, I agree with your opinion at first two paragraphs. When we study language,we must make it as the first language.For example,talking with friends by using it and practicing it. That is the best way to learn a language. In fact, Chinese is really difficult. So far, I just understand easy Chinese, the most difficulty is the Chinese in the past named WENYANWEN. It is really hard ,although you are a Chinese,maybe he will not understand it clearly. That is truth.

ReplyDeleteI disagree with these views.For example, many Chinese students feel English is very difficult to study,because of the education system in China, student just need to study how to pass the exam, so, many students can get a high score in English, but they don't own the speaking skills.For the question, I think maybe each language you can learn well by a right way.If you can find a way which effective and adjust to you,you can control this language as well as your first language.

The research of learning a new language is true. Mostly depend on what we speak when we were born. However, i think every language has its difficult part, so every language it's hard for a new learner.But for the people from Korea,China and Japan are easy to learn each others' language,for English speaker, they are good at learning the language from Europe. Anyway, Chinese is really hard even for me!

ReplyDeleteKorean is the most difficult language for English speaker. I think, the pronounce is hard to them. Also the word order is different between Korean and English.
But, I think English is difficult too. Especially tense is the most confused for me.

I agree with your opinion. For the most difficult language for people to learn is based on their native language. I think there are some relations of the language between the countries in the nearly area. I don't know is that the Koreans is the most difficult one because I only know about Chinese and English. But I think if you know more different language, the more commons you will found.

Personally, I have to say I agree with you. Because there are too many things in the world have two sides. One is positive, the other is negative. It depends on the different situation. Sometimes it is hard to say an exact answer. Such as, there are lots of Chinese people believe Japanese language is not as hard as China language. Actually, it is easy to learn but if you want to study in a higher level, it will be very difficult for you because the grammar is opposite. So I believe "it depends on how you take a look at a language."
ReplyDeleteI agree most of your opinion, except learning English or the other languages are hard to learn for Asian and korean is most difficult language to learn. I would like to say learning languages are depends on the people who studied hard enough to get through it. Of course no matter what if someone born in their country, they could became a expert for their first languages. But, it does not relate anything that they could not learn the other language difficultly. It's all about their effort to learn the language. And also I think Chiness are most hardest language to learn, because it has more than 5000 Chiness alphabet(characters). based on the research, I found there are almost 50,000 chiness characters are exist. So I belive its impossible to learn all of them. Unless someone willing to stay in china.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. I think it is really very hard for study English as a second language. Each students have different trouble and feeling to study English. It is depends on what is their first language. We need have self-confidence to study English. I think it is very important for us to study English.
