- I remember once when I just came to MSU, the " home coming day" was caming.
- A teacher asked us will we go to see the football game, andI said no. When the teacher asked me why, I just answered randomly that I would study at dorm.
- " If you study at dorm everyday, is there any difference between when you in China and come to here?" she said.
- That is, her words impressed me. I think in China there will never be a teacher said like this.
- That's the difference about the study style in the different country. In china,"study"means homework and exam. "Score" is almost the only way that the teacher define whether you are a good student or a bad student.
- A teacher in my junior high school said to a "low score" student:" Your father has better buy you a car and make you become a taxi diver with this tuition than send you to be here."
- What make this happened. According to the report, there are almost 50% students can get into the collage though the exam, so the competation is really drastically. It can make sense that why parents and the teachers pushing students to work hard. The students also feel stressfull.
- However, in American, I think ability and score are both important. There are lots of assn in the collage. Most of teachers would like you to take part in some activitices, and they will organize some of them, like we have been to the elemrentery school.
- In American, the sitution is different. The number of the students are less and there are almost everyone can get into the collage if they want. The education resources are also better and wilder.
- Now, more and more international students came to America to get collage.

I don't know anything about the education in China, but it seemed you are right because the population is so different between China and America. Anyway, instructors usually say a lot of speech is bad, but almost all of them they try to encourage their students, so they have to avoid that and try to study hard.
ReplyDeleteyes! That is situation in China. If you want to enter a good univeristy,so you have to spend all your time on books ,homework and scores!
ReplyDeleteEspecially in high-school,students have to face the pressure from family ,teachers and the entrance examination of university.
We should try to learn how to combine study and having fun .
I hope every international student can enjoy their study here!
AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I agree with you, due to that different country has different education, which should according to the socail situation and the population. If a country has a huge of students, obviously the education of the country will very onerous, students also have stress. If the countery does not with too many students, the education will not busy, while the students stress less than other country students, hence we can not compare two countries' education. wherever we study, we can not study good without previous study hard.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, nobody can judge in scores that the student is good or bad. Thee student may get a bad score in biology but he is good in math.I do not know about the education in China but it seems it is difficult. Also, you are here in America to study English,so you should go out said and talk to Americans' girls.
ReplyDeleteYes, the American education has a big different with America education. In China, we just study all the time, especially before some important exam, teachers all tell us only remember to study, we can not play or just relax. The grade is more important than everything. But in America, they think community is more important than study, study is drpend on yourself, not anybody else. Also you just came to America, i think join more activities, you can make a lot of American friends and inhance your speaking and listening. You just can practise with them, that is a really good way to improve your english, and you have to know, in America, just join everything you want. Just make yourself be relax.
ReplyDeleteyes, I agree with you.I think all chinese already had this experence, that final score for us is really important. In high school, we never had a relax day, every is homework, papers.i really feel angry about this kind of education. But right now, i feel really different, we have enough time for fun, and study. It's more relax in here.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, the education here is very fun. We learn English with fun activities. I do not know about the education in China but I heard a little bit about it.Last semester some classmate told me there is an exam to join the university. It is sooo difficult. A lot of students fail on it.But I think if the student has motivation to study he/she will be successful.Happy New Year Kristin :)
ReplyDeleteIt seems something you said above is true, but unfortunately,i can't agree with you.Nowadays it is the best way to pick the excellent people out from tens of thousands in china. We are not American. To comparing these two different educational systems is no sense. There are not a better one between each other.we should use a reasonable one according to our situation.I know most students in china met some bad teachers before, but it is kind of overgeneralization to ignore the other good side.i do believe we will be better and better on every fields.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with you. There are different from culture and realization. Also there are different way of thingking. At first time, It will be difficult to understand. As for me, I was embarassed and strange for me. But I think, we should follow their way during stay here. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Cheer up! and Happy New Year Kristin.^^
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. According to the Chinese educational situation, Chinese students usually come from a “spoon-feeding” education, which is totally different with American. American instructors usually guide you to try to use your mind, even though sometimes the homework you don’t have to write or just write few words to show what are your thoughts is enough. Such as, most American instructors would like to brain storm. As Chinese education system, teachers will try to give you their knowledge as much as they have. Currently, Chinese governments try to change the situation as you can see more and more schools begin to use “credit”. However, the teachers are still the teachers and the system is still the system. It doesn’t change as well as what people think. College entrance exam still exist but it is just beginning trend. HAPPY NEW YEAR:)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. We from the same country and we study at same educate situation. I think we need free time to do something we like. The same as American education. we need do some activities. I also think less students in a class is good for us study. So I think it is good choice for us to study there. You like it I think.
ReplyDelete1. I remember once when I just came to MSU, the " home coming day" was COMING.
ReplyDelete2. A teacher asked us WHETHER WE will * go to see the football game, AND I said no. When the teacher asked me why, I just answered randomly that I would study at MY dorm.
3. " If you study at YOUR dorm everyday, is there any difference between when you WERE in China and AFTER YOU CAME here?" SO she said.
4. * Her words impressed me. I think in China there will never be a teacher WHO SAY THINGS like this.
5. That's A difference about * studyING style in TWO different countrIES. In China,"study" means homework and exam. "Score" is almost the only way BY WHICH the teacher defineS whether you are a good student or a bad student.
6. A teacher in my junior high school said to a "low score" student:" Your father HAD better buy you a car and make you become a taxi diver with this tuition than send you to be here."
7. What makeS this HAPPEN? According to A report, there are almost 50% OF students WHO can get into * collage though * exam, so the COMPETITION is really drastically. It can make sense * why parents and * teachers PUSH students to work hard. * Students also feel STRESSFUL.
8. However, in AMERICA, I think ability and score are both important. There are lots of ASSIGNMENT(?) in * collage. Most * teachers would like you to take part in some ACTIVITIES, and they will organize some of them, FOR EXAMPLE, we WENT to * AN ELEMENTARY school.
9. In AMERICA, the SITUATION is different. The number of the students IS less and * almost everyone can get into * collage if they want. The education resources are also better and WIDER.
10. Now, more and more international students COME to America to get INTO COLLEGE.
As Ethan wrote, the eduction system is different in each country; so it may not be relevant to compare these two completely different systems. Japan used to be like China; it was so competitive to get into college. However, nowadays, as the number of children decreased, it is becoming easier to enter college. Especially if you aim at local college, it often accepts everyone who sends applications.
As you wrote, it is not difficult to enter college in the US, of course, if you do not choose college. But we should remember that the dropout rate is so high in the US. That means, if they don't study, they easily fail. That is their responsibility. Besides, they are paying tuitions and fee which are higher than what we pay in our countries.
When we were in high school, yes, we needed study hard, but teachers were so attentive and we got a lot of help from them. But in the US, you are the one who needs to do it. And if you need help, you need to seek for it as teachers do not come to you to help. So if you are not so serious, you will naturally fade away.
I am not sure which one is better; each of them has pros and cons. But as someone who has seen both, you can have an objective viewpoint. I hope you can make use of it in your future.
Yes, I agree with you. This situation maybe the same in many other Asia countries. The education system and the conpetition make students have no time to do anything which they want to do. But it is based on the situation of the county. Such as China, there are too many people, so the competition will be appeared. So, the students need to have a good atitude, and control their time reasonably.
