- Many international students will choose to live with a people who can speak the same language. In MSU, it's very common. Chinese lived with Chinese, Korean lived with Korean.
- But for my view, I prefer to lived with a man who was a native speaker.
- Nowdays, for us, practising speaking English is very important. But if your roommate is always speaking the mother language with you, you can not increase your English skills fastly and effectively. On the contaray, if your roommate is a native speaker, it's not only better for your course, but also better for you to discover more native culture.
- We should enjoy the Americans socity. So, we need one person who can give you great guide. For example, I didn't know the American football before. But after my roommate told me the all rules and the knowledges, I found I have fulled in love with it.
- A native speaker friend will help you solve many problems you never face. Such as the driver license, socical security number.
- But this topic is a contoversial issue. Some people think if you lived with a people who speak the same first language with you will more convenient. Such as they can take care of each others, they can communicate more directly.
- However, it will make you lose a chance to make more foreign friends. And as far as I am concened that if you can make a good communication with the foreigners they can also take care of you.
- Other people think they shold have a short time to adjust the new life, so they choose a roommate who was not a foreigner.
- For that, I don't agree. You should have to learn how to depend on yourself or not alway by others. independce is very important.
- So, I prefer to choose a native speaker to live in with me. It's play an increasingly important role in my American life.

Yes that is right. In addition, it make you an open mind person, but you have to be careful about gain the bad habits such as smoking or drinking a lot of alcohol. We have to get good things and avoid the bad things after we tell them.
ReplyDeleteyes!i agree with your opion. As me, i like to stay with my Chinese friends, although that will not improve my English, but i think is easy for me to speak. I think as a international students, i should more talking with fronier students, that is really good for us. Many people when they speak English, they feel not very confidence, they are afraid of speak not good or something else. But if you wont speak, you will not imporve. On the other hand, if you talk a lot, you will jump a lot.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, that is a common phenomena, most of international students like live with their friends or classmates who came from same country.Due to they came from same country, they can conmunication well and help each other. if we live with native students, sometimes we will misunderstand each other, because of we have different thinging style or language. But live with native students were not without advantage, we know that if we want to have a good study performance, the first thing is we should have good command of language. so live with local students can help us improve our language skill, especially listenling and speaking which are very important for live in foreign countries.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I like living with a native speaker as you talked, that is a great chance to learn English from them.we can practice speaking and listening at the same time, we can feel how do Americans think and behave, that makes easier to know about American culture. For international students,we should treat study at the most important thing, although some unhappiness could happen,we should understand it and solve it,to make it harmony!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Actually I did not have this chance. But if I have it, it will be great.I practiced my speaking with my children. They talk very fast and have a good pronunciation and accent. On the other hand , to have native speaker roommate it is a good way to improve your English but if you don't have there are many ways. Don;t be sad.
ReplyDeleteyes,it is an intelligent choice to live with English speakers,if you want to enhance your English communication skills. It seems that you earn a more comfortable and convenient environment. As we know that,to see,to capture the their life style, which is a significant part of English learning. Moreover,an important thing you ought to keep in mind is that firstly you have to "forget" your mother language before you try to communicate using English. In contrast, sometimes you might be confused by translating your own language to English over and over,if you can't refuse to be input information of your mother-words here.but i am not the linguist, abovementioned points are only from guessing.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your opinion, but I can not recognize about first paragraph. As for me,when I arrived MSU and met my roommate, her friend asked for switch roommate each other. Because her roommate was also Korean. However my roommate said that if I did not want and want to practice English, she would live with me. I also want to practice and learn English, so I am living with American. We have to learn and practice English as you said. It is significant for improving skill. We should use English more and more. I am going to stay at MSU for four month more. It is short time for me, and I would like to spend time more valuable.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion , I am sure that if you with an American persone, you will learn English quickly. But you do not know if you choose an honest and a good person to live with you in a same room.Because he may steal some money from you or he may drink alcholic in the room. Also, he may bring his girlfriend in the room which all these are not acceptable in my religin. So, I think choosing a good roomate which has some similarty with you is improtant because you should live confartable in you room or apartment.I can learn English anywhere and I can get an American friend and talk to him all the day. But without l living with him in the same room.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your point. But i will not live with the American. I don't mean I hate them, because sometimes the things they do, i feel very strange. And i perfer to live some other Asian, which we could also communcate in English. Also we dont have a some culture with the American, so i feel better not to live with them. Anyway, this is just the point of my view.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with your opinion. First, I agree with you about having a native speaker will help us improve our English and during the period of living on campus, if we don’t live with an American, it will not make any sense. Our parents spend a lot of money for us studying abroad. If we just stay with or hang out the people who speak same language with us, it will misunderstand. Moreover, it not only can improve our language skill but also can help us accept America culture quickly. However, it does not suit for everyone. If some person is extroversion, living with which kind of person may not have much different. As a diffident person, it is much different for living with a native. As you said, living with a native may help them improve their English skill and make more American friends…
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you!! That's true. People from the same country are live together. I think this is not good for international students. We go there not only study academic but also study English. We need practice and know different culture from our roommates. So Live with native speaker is good for us to study there. I think most American are friendly.
ReplyDelete1. Many international students * choose to live with * people who can speak the same language. In MSU, it's very common. THE Chinese LIVE with THE Chinese, AND THE KoreanS LIVE with THE KoreanS.
ReplyDelete2. But IN my view, I prefer to LIVE with a man who IS a native speaker OF ENGLISH(?).
3. NOWADAYS, for us, PRACTICING speaking English is very important. 10. * I don't agree WITH THIS IDEA. You should * learn how to depend on yourself AND not alway ON others. INDEPENDENCE is very important.
11. So, I prefer to choose a native speaker OF ENGISH to live in with me. It's playING an increasingly important role in my American life.
If you say "native speaker", it could mean a native speaker of any language. So you should write "native speaker of English."
Make sure to check spelling before you post it. Use the function.
As I wrote elsewhere, when I came to the US, it was the countryside, and I had no one to speak Japanese with me. I was terrible at speaking and listening to English, and I had a hard time at the beginning. But because I did not have anyone around me to speak Japanese with, my English got much better in a short period of time, and I started to dream in English after a half year. I used almost only English all day long throughout the year.
Personally, I think it would be beneficial to have a roommate who is a native speaker of English. Especially, if she/he wants to learn your native language, that would be great as you can exchange languages. But I must also admit that not everyone likes that. Some people like to get away from English at home where people are supposed to be relaxed. I can't have a roommate now, but if I can, I would definitely have a native speaker of English, but not Japanese.
